Local industry involvement in major projects

We're committed to helping businesses access major project procurement opportunities to benefit Queenslanders and broader economy.

Local content / Supply chain support

Our department operates 11 regional offices across Queensland supporting businesses to mature, grow and invest.

Support includes providing information via one-on-one interactions, presentations and workshops (both online and face-to-face).

The Queensland Government has also collated a range of useful information to help start and run a business in Queensland.

This includes pre-recorded sessions on how to promote the your businesses’ products and services to others.

Businesses are encouraged to register on the Industry Capability Network (ICN Qld)  Gateway to deliver the Queensland Charter for Local Content. This provides Queensland's business community with full, fair and reasonable access to government procurement.

We also support local business by:

  • administering the Queensland Charter for Local Content
  • facilitating local content services to promote major project opportunities
  • collecting and reporting local content achievement and performance.

The Queensland Government is helping Indigenous businesses around the state to benefit from Queensland's major projects.

Commissioned by the Queensland Government, ICN QLD manages the Black Business Finder. The database now lists over 750 Indigenous businesses.

Local content in major projects

The following projects have been supported by the Queensland Government through listing tendering opportunities on the ICN Gateway:

Caboolture Hospital Redevelopment

Caboolture Hospital is undergoing a major expansion and redevelopment to build a bigger and better hospital with more health services and carparking for the community by 2023.

The Queensland Government has committed $352.9 million to expand and redevelop Caboolture Hospital and $41.7 million to build a new multi-storey carpark.

This exciting project will see new facilities built and current spaces refurbished, covering a total floor area of around 32,000sqm.

Cross River Rail

More than just a rail project, Cross River Rail will enable a turn-up-and-go transport network, stimulate economic development, and generate thousands of jobs.

Cross River Rail will be delivered by the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority in partnership with the private sector through three major infrastructure packages of work: the Tunnel, Stations and Development (TSD) public-private partnership; the Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) alliance; and the European Train Control System (ETCS) contract.

Queen’s Wharf

Destination Brisbane Consortium, The Star Entertainment Group (formerly Echo Entertainment Group), Far East Consortium (Australia) and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises is delivering this world-class tourism, leisure and entertainment precinct in the heart of the Brisbane CBD.

The project will deliver economic growth for Queensland by creating over 2000 jobs during peak construction and 8000 jobs when the Integrated Resort Development is operational.

Southern Queensland Correctional Precinct Stage 2 Project

The project includes the design and construction, including services, of Stage 2 of the Southern Queensland Correctional Precinct at Gatton

The project will:

  • Address overcrowding across the correctional system in Queensland
  • Improve safety of correctional officers and prisoners
  • Deliver economic boost and additional jobs during both construction and operation

Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP)

The Queensland Government established the QTMP to meet the increasing demand for rail transport in South East Queensland over the next 10 years. The $7.1 billion program will build 65 new six-car passenger trains at a purpose-built manufacturing facility at Torbanlea, in the Maryborough region. Two new maintenance depots and additional stabling yards will also be built in the Gold Coast region.

In line with the government's commitment to source locally, construction, testing and maintenance of the new trains will be conducted within Queensland. The QTMP will support South East Queensland's population and economic growth, as well as Cross River Rail and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Construction of the facilities and trains, and maintenance of the fleet, will support Queensland jobs now and into the future. The program will provide a pipeline of training and development opportunities to cement Queensland as the train building capital of Australia.
