The Queensland Government has accelerated the delivery of biomass data and mapping through Biofutures Queensland in partnership with the Australian Biomass for Bioenergy Assessment – a project funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

This information will assist project developers to assess the types, volumes and locations of potential biomass feedstocks in Queensland. Feedstock data is vital for project developers to determine the potential viability of a new bioenergy or waste project and to identify the biomass supply chain - through to end users.

The data will enable better links between biomass suppliers and end users, supporting local businesses to get more value from organic material destined for landfill, disposal or other low-value uses by improving information access and quality.

An interactive dashboard on biomass residues available in Queensland has been created to help you access and visualise this information.

Data is presented as aggregated values at a Local Government Area. Should you wish to overlay additional datasets such as energy/transport infrastructure or land use information, please visit the AREMI website.

Data in this dashboard is updated as more information on biomass feedstocks becomes available.

How to use the dashboard:

You can filter data through four different levels:

  1. Region: a selection of local government areas which have been grouped into similar geographic regions.
  2. Local government areas: each local government area in Queensland can be selected individually.
  3. Residue source: broad groups of biomass feedstocks.
  4. Residue type: individual residue types – this is the finest detail of data available.

For details on how this data was derived please download the technical methods documents. To download the raw data as CSV files please visit the Queensland open data portal.
